Le armate romane furono sconfitte a Trebia nel 218 dC, al Lago Trasimeno nel 217 dC ea Cannes nel 216 dC Nel 212 dC Annibale prese Taranto e radunò le città dell'Italia meridionale. 211 AC segna una vittoria romana a Capua..
