ITALIE - ÉTATS DE L'ÉGLISE - JEAN XXIII (Angelo Guiseppe Roncalli)
(28/10/1958-3/6/1963)
Originario del bergamasco, Giovanni XXIII proveniva da una modestissima famiglia di contadini. Cappellano durante la prima guerra mondiale, iniziò la carriera diplomatica nel 1925. Fu creato cardinale nel 1953 e dopo undici scrutini fu eletto papa come successore di Pio XII. Durante il suo pontificato, impegnerà la Chiesa cattolica in una trasformazione con l'annuncio del Concilio Vaticano II nel 1959. Il suo successore Paolo VI aprì il suo processo di beatificazione nel 1968.
