Ce type correspond à la 20 Francs Turin fabriquée en métropole. Ce type est frappé de 1358 à 1361 de l’Hégire (1939 à 1942). Pour 1939, outre l’essai, 100.000 exemplaires furent frappés. Les autres millésimes ne le furent qu’à 53 exemplaires chacun et sont très rares.

Il protettorato francese della Tunisia fu istituito dal Trattato del Bardo del 12 maggio 1881. Le strutture politiche, economiche e sociali del paese furono trasformate e il sistema monetario fu modellato su quello francese con l'adozione di moduli identici. Il protettorato fu definitivamente abolito il 20 marzo 1956 dopo i negoziati che costituirono il culmine del movimento nazionale tunisino..
