SVIZZERA - CANTON VALLESE
Questo cantone situato nel sud della Confederazione Svizzera si trova nell'alta Valle del Rodano. Dal 1613 al 1798 una Dieta presieduta dal Principe-Vescovo di Sion (Sitten in tedesco) gestì gli affari del Cantone. Annesso alla Repubblica Elvetica nel 1798, il cantone divenne Repubblica Rodanica tra il 1802 e il 1810, quindi fu annesso all'Impero Francese con il nome di Dipartimento del Sempione. l 4 agosto 1815 il Vallese diventa il ventesimo cantone della Confederazione Svizzera..
