Titolatura rovescio : ANÉPIGRAPHE.
Descrittivo rovescio : Quadrige galopant au pas à gauche, conduit par un aurige tenant les rênes et le kentron ; l’aurige est couronné par Niké volant à droite.
Commento
Exemplaire normalement signé par Phrygillos au droit et par Euarchidas au revers. Au droit la signature est sur l’ampyx (bandeau) d’Aréthuse et est à peine perceptible sur cet exemplaire. Le revers n’est pas signé. Mêmes coins que les exemplaires de la collection de Luynes (BnF/ DMMA) n° 1216 que celui du British Museum (BMC Sicily) n° 160 ainsi que celui de la collection du Consul H. Weber n° 1604.

Dionisio I
Durante la guerra del Peloponneso (431-404 aC), Siracusa dovette affrontare sul suo territorio la formidabile spedizione ateniese guidata dal 415 aC da Alcibiade e Nicia. Dopo il richiamo della prima, la flotta ateniese fu affondata nel porto di Siracusa e gli Ateniesi furono sconfitti sull'Assinario nel 413 a.C., Nicia messo a morte e i superstiti dell'esercito ateniese condannati ai lavori forzati nelle cave di pietra (latomie) . Nel 409 i Cartaginesi invasero nuovamente l'isola e presero Selinunte e Imera, poi Agrigento nel 405 aC Dionisio di Siracusa prese il potere e respinse gli invasori nel 397 aC Il regno di Dionisio il Vecchio durò altri trent'anni e fu Timoleonte che gli succedette.
