Commento
Monnayage coulé de forme oblongue et pyramidale avec une section ovale. Il a été fabriqué au début de la deuxième moitié du Ve siècle avant J.-C. Marque de valeur, quatre globules sur la tranche pour 4 onkiai, tetronkion ou trias. Notre exemplaire semble épigraphe au droit avec un K majuscule peut-être précédé d’une autre lettre (A) non visible qui constitueraient alors les initiales de l’ethnique de la cité (AK pour Akragas). Pour ce type, G. Buceti (MSTSG. 53) a recensé vingt-huit exemplaires avec des poids compris entre 10,73 g et 16,61 g.

SICILIA - AGRIGENTUM
(VI-V secolo a.C.)
Agrigento fu fondata nel VI secolo aC da coloni gelesi. Era una delle città più belle e prospere della costa meridionale della Sicilia. La città si trovava a pochi chilometri dal mare alla confluenza di due fiumi, Akragas e Hypsas. La monetazione sembra iniziare intorno al 550 a.C.. -VS. sotto il dominio del tiranno Flaride. Terone, tiranno di Agrigento, conquistò Imera nel 482 a.C. -VS. Quest'ultimo e Gelone di Siracusa ottennero una brillante vittoria sui Cartaginesi a Imera nel 480 a.C.. -VS. che allentò il vizio che Cartagine impose all'isola. Dopo la morte di Theron nel 472 aC. -VS. , La democrazia è stata ripristinata. Nel 413 a.C. -VS. , Agrigento era piuttosto favorevole agli Ateniesi contro i Siracusani. La città fu distrutta nel 406 a.C. -VS. , durante l'invasione cartaginese. Fu comunque ricostruito, ma non riacquistò il suo antico splendore.. La città si trovò coinvolta nel conflitto tra Cartaginesi e Romani durante i primi due Punici (261-241 aC).. -VS. e 221-201 a.C. -VS. ). I romani conquistarono Agrigento nel 210 a.C. -VS. , durante la conquista della Sicilia.
