Il est très probable que si ce potin a été choisi par André BRETON (alors même que les potins à la grosse tête des Séquanes se trouvent aisément), c'est en raison de la stylisation du portrait et plus particulièrement du profil. Pour ce type A2, il y a six variétés différentes. Sur cet exemplaire, un globule vient orner la bouche. Les offres reçues pour les quelques monnaies de cette prestigieuse collection vendues dans MONNAIES XIX montrent l'intérêt d'un pedigree pour une monnaie (cf. liste des prix réalisés de MONNAIES XIX).

I Séquanes erano uno dei popoli più importanti della Gallia orientale. Erano i nemici degli Edui, loro vicini. Il loro territorio era molto vasto e si estendeva tra la Saona, il Rodano, il Giura ei Vosgi. I laghi del Giura li separavano dagli Elvezi. Erano stati molto potenti nel III e II secolo aC, ma avevano perso il loro lustro dopo che i Germani avevano occupato parte del loro territorio intorno al 70 aC I loro vicini erano i Leuchi, i Lingoni, gli Edui e gli Elvezi. Il loro oppidum principale era Vesontio (Besançon). Citati più volte da Cesare, durante la campagna del 52 aC, fornirono un contingente di 12.000 uomini per l'esercito di soccorso. Cesare (BG. I, 1-3, 6, 8-10, 12, 19, 31-33, 35, 38, 40, 44, 48, 54; IV, 10; VI, 12; VII, 66, 67, 75, 90). Kruta: 16, 71, 111, 364.
