(1922-1991)
La rivoluzione di febbraio del 1917 pose fine al regime degli zar di Russia. La Repubblica Russa fu rovesciata dai bolscevichi nell'ottobre 1917. Il 30 dicembre 1922 fu firmato il trattato relativo alla formazione dell'Unione delle Repubbliche Socialiste Sovietiche (URSS). Pur avendo un capo di Stato e un capo di governo, l'URSS è infatti guidata dal leader del Partito Comunista dell'Unione Sovietica, unico partito autorizzato tra il 1925 e il 1990. 8 dicembre 1991, i presidenti di Russia, Ucraina e la Bielorussia firmano l'Accordo di Minsk che proclama la dissoluzione dell'URSS da parte dei suoi Stati fondatori.
