Prieur de Crato, gouverneur de Tanger, Antoine Ier (1551-1595) est roi du Portugal et des Algarves du 25 juillet au 24 août 1580. Ses armées sont battues par les espagnols. Il cède la trône à Philippe II d’Espagne. Les couronnes d’Espagne et du Portugal sont alors unies jusqu’en 1640.
