Cronistoria
PONTUS - AMISOS
(II - I secolo a.C.)
Situata sul Mar Nero tra Sinope e Farnace, Amisos fu fondata nel VI secolo a.C. dai Milesi e dai Focesi. A metà del secolo successivo, popolata da coloni ateniesi, fu ribattezzata Peiraeus (Pireo). Datami conquistò Amisos nel 372 a.C., la città divenne un affluente dei persiani e fu istituita un'oligarchia. Fu Alessandro Magno che liberò la città e ripristinò il suo status democratico. La sua monetazione durò fino al I secolo a.C., conoscendo una notevole estensione sotto il regno di Mitridate VI del Ponto (120-63 d.C.)..
