Exemplaire de qualité exceptionnelle pour ce type de monnayage, bien centré des deux côtés. Très joli droit où les détails de la galère et des hoplites sont parfaitement visibles. Joli revers avec une petite faiblesse de frappe. Recouvert d’une très belle patine avec des reflets mordorés

Titolatura diritto : ANÉPIGRAPHE.

Descrittivo diritto : Galère voguant à gauche, ornée d'un masque de lion avec deux hoplites à l'intérieur ; gouvernail ; au-dessous, les flots, un hippocampe et un coquillage couché (murex).

Rovescio

Titolatura rovescio : LÉGENDE ARAMÉENNE (AINEL, ROI DE GEBAL).

Descrittivo rovescio : Lion bondissant à gauche sur un taureau.

Commento

Sur cet exemplaire, la lecture du revers ne laisse planer aucun doute, il s’agit bien d’un huitième de shekel pour Ainel, cité par Arrien comme Enylus et contemporain d’Alexandre III le Grand (c. 333 avant J.-C.).
On this example, the reading of the reverse leaves no doubt, it is indeed an eighth of a shekel for Ainel, cited by Arrian as Enylus and contemporary of Alexander III the Great (c. 333 BC).
