(1581-1795)

Il 23 gennaio 1579, le cinque province di Olanda, Zelanda, Utrecht, Gelderland e Friesland United Provinces formarono uno stato federale durante l'Unione di Utrecht. La provincia di Overijssel si unì alle cinque province nello stesso anno, quella di Groningen nel 1594. Nel luglio 1581 i deputati delle province settentrionali dichiararono deposto Filippo II. Nel 1795, i francesi istituirono temporaneamente la Repubblica Batava che sostituì le Province Unite..
