Ce type appartient à la deuxième phase du monnayage entre 1612 et 1621. Le patagon est frappé à partir de 1612. Le 1/4 patagon est fabriqué plus tardivement à Anvers, seulement à partir de 1616. On a retrouvé des pièces pour les millésimes 1616 et 1617, les pièces pour 1618 et 1619 restent à retrouver. La plupart des pièces sont en fait non datées.

Gli arciduchi governarono i Paesi Bassi spagnoli tra il 1598 e il 1621 per conto di Filippo III (1598-1621). Alberto, arciduca d'Austria (1559-1621), era figlio di Massimiliano II, imperatore del Sacro Romano Impero e Isabella di Spagna (1566-1633), figlia di Filippo II di Spagna. Isabella sposò Albert nel 1599 e furono immediatamente nominati governatori dei Paesi Bassi.
