Octave e Agrippa sono nati entrambi nel 63 a.C. e sono amici d'infanzia. Dalla morte di Cesare nel 44 aC, Agrippa mostrò una lealtà incrollabile all'erede del dittatore. Sarà il suo generale e ammiraglio sui campi di battaglia. Si distinse a Filippi nel 42 a.C. prima di ottenere successi marittimi a Nauloque contro Sesto Pompeo e ad Azio contro Antonio e Cleopatra. È, dopo Octave, l'uomo più potente del principato.
