Avec ce revers, Jean Mazard avait répertorié vingt variétés différentes avec des variantes de légende et de présentation. Notre exemplaire n’apparaît pas dans la classification de J. Mazard, ni celle de J. Alexandropoulos avec la variante de buste.

MAURETANIA - REGNO DI MAURETANIA - GIUBO II e CLEOPATRA
(19 a.C. - 6 d.C.)
Giuba I era stato sconfitto a Thapsus nel 46 a.C. ma suo figlio, Giuba II (50 d.C. - 23 d.C.), allevato da Ottavia, divenne amico di Augusto che gli diede la provincia della Mauritania nel 25 a.C. Cleopatra Selene, figlia di Cleopatra VII e Marc Antoine, furono risparmiati da Octave nel 30 a.C. quando quest'ultimo fece mettere a morte Tolomeo XV (Cesarione). Sposò Giuba II intorno al 19 a.C. e morì intorno al 5 o 6 d.C. Juba II gli sopravvisse di circa diciotto anni. È la prozia di Caligola e madre di Tolomeo succeduto a Giuba II e che suo cugino Caligola aveva assassinato a Roma nel 40 per annettere la Mauretania.
