Il est tentant d’attribuer ce genre de denier à Marseille, mais l’attribution n’est pas certaine. Il est intéressant de noter les similitudes avec d’autres deniers d’une typologie assez proche et qui sont plutôt attribués à Melle (Deux-Sèvres) et à sa région.

MONETE DELLO MEROVINGI - MARSEILLES (MASSILIA)
(VII - VIII secolo)
Childerico II abolisce il conio dell'oro in Gallia a favore della moneta d'argento. La zecca marsigliese coniò monete d'argento dopo l'assassinio di Childerico II nel 675 e probabilmente fino all'inizio del regno di Pipino il Breve. Il laboratorio ha avuto un'importante produzione di cui l'unico tesoro di Nice-Cimiez ha fornito una grande varietà di tipi. Alla guida della città si succedettero cinque patrizi, Ansedertus, Nemfidius, Antenor, Metranus e Abbo. Nel 736 la Provenza fu annessa al regno di Francia e Carlo Martello pose fine al patriziato. Nessuna produzione di rame a Marsiglia sembra attestata. Per mancanza di testo non si conoscono le date di queste patrici.
