Si l’on suit une logique d’affectation des frappes en fonction des financements à des familles ou des institutions locales désignées par des lettres ou symboles, on pourrait penser que la série sans lettre ni symbole serait celle des monnaies financées par une autorité centrale, impériale ou militaire. Sauf l’existence dans cette série du seul Macrin daté d’un deuxième consulat de toutes les émissions, rien ne confirmerait dans cette voie. On comprend bien que si l‘attribution des séries au Shamash à Émesa est exacte, il semble peu probable que Macrin y ait été franchement populaire, la ville étant un fief de la dynastie sévérienne. Une frappe extrêmement tardive pour Macrin serait donc plus logiquement le fait d’un financement extérieur à la ville.
L’attribution des séries au Shamash à Emesa est plus que probable mais la découverte d’une émission de présentation qui viendrait le confirmer serait la bienvenue.
Les émissions sont réparties en officines, terme impropre car il ne s’agit certainement pas d’officines au sens d’une répartition de la production. En effet, certaines lettres ou symboles se retrouvent sur de très nombreux exemplaires, d’autres sur une poignée : on doit donc plutôt réfléchir en source de financement, réparti probablement entre différentes familles ou institutions locales.

Dans la base TSP maintenue par Michel Prieur, quatre exemplaires sont maintenant répertoriés, aucun en musée. Notre exemplaire, qui provient de la vente Hirsch 170 (mai 1991), n°1363 - est le 0976_002.

The emissions are distributed into pharmacies, an improper term because these are certainly not pharmacies in the sense of a distribution of production.. Indeed, some letters or symbols are found on a large number of examples, others on a handful: we should therefore rather think about the source of funding, probably distributed between different families or local institutions..
