Duca di Sassonia dal 912, fu nel 918 che Corrado I lo nominò suo successore. Nel 919 la Lorena fu integrata nell'Impero. Henry fu colpito dalla paralisi nel 935 e morì l'anno successivo. Suo figlio, Ottone, unirà la Germania e l'Italia e sarà all'origine del Sacro Romano Impero..
