Format 23 x 29 cm, deux volumes reliés, XXIV + 147 p. + XXX pl. et XVII + 175 p. + XXXI pl. Reliures dos en similicuir bordeaux avec titre dorés, en excellent état mais dépareillées (explication ci-dessous). Ouvrage accompagné de la publicité d’époque d’Émile Bourgey annonçant la parution du tome II vendu à l’époque 4500 francs (anciens francs) et lettre tapuscrite du 7 avril 1956 écrite depuis Saint-Quentin et adressée à Émile Bourgey indiquant : “J’ai bien reçu votre circulaire relative au TOME II sur les MONNAIES DES ROIS DE FRANCE de FRANCOIS Ier à HENRI IV. Je vous retiens dés à présent un de ces ouvrages. J’aurai préféré un exemplaire relié comme le précédent TOME Ier qui avait réalisé en dos de CHAGRIN ROUGE avec COINS ROUGE également. Si votre intention était de n’en faire relier aucun je ferai faire ce travail ici...”.
The coins of the kings of France, volume I, Hugues Capet to Louis XII by Jean Lafaurie, Paris-Basel, 1951 and volume II, François I to Henri IV, Paris-Basel, 1956 Format 23 x 29 cm, two bound volumes, XXIV + 147 p. + XXX pl. and XVII + 175 p. + XXXI pl. Bindings with burgundy leatherette spines with gilt titles, in excellent condition but mismatched (explanation below). Book accompanied by the contemporary advertisement by Émile Bourgey announcing the publication of volume II, sold at the time for 4,500 francs (old francs) and a typewritten letter dated April 7, 1956, written from Saint-Quentin and addressed to Émile Bourgey stating: “I have received your circular relating to VOLUME II on the COINS OF THE KINGS OF FRANCE from FRANCIS I to HENRY IV. I am now holding one of these works for you. I would have preferred a bound example like the previous VOLUME I, which had RED CHAGRIN with RED CORNERS on the spine as well. If your intention was not to have any bound, I will have this work done here...”
