Commento
La statue équestre de Louis XIV, érigée en 1718 à Montpellier sur la place du Peyrou, fut longtemps l'objet de la sollicitude des États. Après avoir fait décorer magnifiquement le piédestal en marbre de Carrare, l'avoir entouré d'une belle grille en fer forgé, avoir fait graver, sur le socle, la fameuse inscription de M. des Hours de Mandajors, les États s'avisèrent que la place du Peyrou était "peu digne d'un si auguste monument”. Ils résolurent de l'agrandir et de l'embellir. Le sieur de Lablottière, directeur des fortifications du Languedoc, fut chargé de rédiger un plan des travaux, qui fut remis aux États le 24 janvier 1731, approuvé par eux et par le Roi. Conformément au projet, on acheta les terrains du couvent des Frères de la Merci, qui étaient situés au sud de la promenade et qui devaient en augmenter considérablement l'étendue. Ce jeton de 1733 rappelle ce projet de l'assemblée provinciale, projet qui ne devait être entièrement réalisé que 40 ans plus tard.

Gli Stati della Linguadoca erano costituiti dagli arcivescovi e vescovi della provincia, nobili e delegati del Terzo Stato nominati dagli organi municipali. Costituiti in commissioni di lavoro, gli Stati avevano il ruolo particolare di gestire i conti e di distribuire le imposte regie dirette anticipate sotto forma di sottoscrizione da questo Paese di Stati.. Hanno anche organizzato i mezzi di comunicazione attraverso appalti di lavori pubblici. I gettoni degli Stati originariamente erano destinati ad essere distribuiti ai membri dell'ufficio del conto poi, questa distribuzione fu estesa ai membri dell'ufficio delle reclute, al presidente degli Stati, ai sindaci generali dei siniscalci , all'impiegato del re, al tesoriere di borsa, ecc.. Potrebbero anche essere donati come omaggio o come omaggio a personalità esterne.. Realizzati a Parigi con annate comprese tra il 1634 e il 1790, questi gettoni venivano distribuiti sotto forma di portamonete di un centinaio di gettoni. Il più recente "Elenco dei gettoni e delle medaglie degli Stati Generali della Linguadoca" è stato scritto da M. Gérard Pinto, Quaderni dell'accordo bibliofilo di Montpellier, 1993.
