A l’époque, la Parys Mines Company exploitait la plus grande mine de cuivre du monde située au Pays de Galles. Charles Pye, graveur de Birmingham, estimait la production de la compagnie à au moins 250 tonnes de pennies et 50 tonnes de demi-pennies, ce qui en faisait comme le plus gros émetteur de tokens en cuivre. Ces tokens étaient frappés dans un atelier appartenant à la compagnie et situé à Birmingham..
