Cette petite obole s’insère dans la série 1286 pour “les fractions en argent des peuples de l’ouest”.
Avec une telle petite tête très stylisée, elle ne correspond exactement à aucune des monnaies du Nouvel Atlas. Par contre, elle est recensée dans l’article en ligne de la société numismatique du Limousin, “les fractions en argent des peuples du “centre-ouest””, série 3.4. “série à la petite tête”, type b1.

Popolo celtico che ha lasciato il proprio nome a Limoges e Limosino. L'origine del suo nome deriva ancora una volta da lemo o limo che può essere tradotto con olmo. Abili commercianti, specializzati nell'esportazione, furono forse gli alleati segreti dei romani il che potrebbe spiegare il silenzio di Cesare su questo popolo che tuttavia estese il proprio potere fino alle coste atlantiche. Tuttavia, Cesare stima in diecimila uomini il contingente di Lemovice inviato contro di lui per liberare Alesia nel 52 a.C.. Dopo la conquista, dal 50 a.C., Cesare avrebbe installato diversi accampamenti romani nel territorio di Lemovice per poter monitorare il territorio arverno. . Cesare (BG. VII, 4, 75, 88).
