Commento
According to Marc Labouret, this is a token struck on the occasion of the founding of the Social Contract in 1776. The lodge was founded on March 10, 1766 under the distinctive title of Saint-Lazare. Reconstituted by the Grand Orient in January 1774. In 1770, it obtained constitutions from the Mother Lodge of Marseille and took the title of Saint-Jean d'Ecosse of the Social Contract, which the Grand Orient recognized in May 1776. On May 6 of the same year, it took the title of Mother Lodge of Scotland of France following the incorporation into its ranks of the Mother Lodge of Avignon, which transmitted its philosophical rite to it. It voted on the General Regulations of Scottish Masonry. But the Grand Orient of France did not accept its claims and a conflict erupted until 1781. Subsequently, the Social Contract renounced its title of Mother Lodge to the Grand Orient of France while retaining the right to use it in its own relations with the 18 lodges issued from the Social Contract of the Paris rite.
