Commento
In 1713, the Peace of Utrecht, signed between France, Spain, England, the United Provinces, Portugal, Savoy and Prussia, put an end to Louis XIV's last and painful war, the War of the Spanish Succession, during which France once again found itself isolated in the face of a Europe united around England, the rising power of the very end of the 17th and the beginning of the 18th century. This token expresses all the hope and desire for revenge that still animated the old king in his kingdom, weakened by all these years of war. Having been forced to renounce the union of the kingdoms of Spain and France in the person of the Duke of Anjou, Louis XIV felt stripped of his due by an England triumphant in Europe, both politically and commercially and colonially.
