Jean-Paul Marat (1743-1793) est un médecin, physicien, journaliste et homme politique français. Usurpateur de noblesse avant la chute du régime monarchique, il devient député montagnard à la Convention à l’époque de la Révolution. Son assassinat par Charlotte Corday permet aux hébertistes de faire de lui un martyr de la Révolution et d'installer pendant quelques mois ses restes au Panthéon (cf. wikipedia).

Cronistoria
CONVENZIONE NAZIONALE
(21/09/1792-26/10/1795)
La Repubblica fu proclamata il 22 settembre 1792 dalla Convenzione. La Francia dichiara guerra all'Inghilterra, all'Olanda e alla Spagna nel febbraio e marzo 1793. La prima coalizione contro la Francia è composta da Inghilterra, Olanda, Austria, Russia, Spagna, Prussia, Austria e Savoia. I francesi annettono la Renania e Basilea. Dumouriez, battuto a Neerwinden il 18 marzo, decretato dell'accusa, passa al nemico. Il 10 marzo 1793 fu istituito il Tribunale Rivoluzionario, poi il Comitato di Pubblica Sicurezza il 6 aprile. Marat fu assassinato da Charlotte Corday il 13 luglio 1793. La fine del governo dei Girondini il 31 maggio e il 2 giugno portò il processo e l'esecuzione il 31 ottobre. Questo è l'inizio del movimento federalista nelle province. Marsiglia viene presa il 25 agosto e Lione il 17 ottobre. I vandeani, che avevano preso Saumur il 9 giugno, furono schiacciati a Cholet il 17 ottobre. Il prelievo di massa è stato decretato il 23 agosto. Il 5 settembre la Convenzione istituisce il Terrore.
