(95-63 a.C.)
Ariobarzanes I fu eletto nel 95 a.C., la sua candidatura era stata sostenuta dai romani. La Cappadocia fu occupata dalle truppe di Mitridate VI del Ponto e di suo figlio Ariarate IX (101-87 aC) e il re dovette spesso abbandonare la sua capitale. Avendo dovuto combattere anche contro Tigrane, re d'Armenia, abdicò in favore del figlio nel 63 a.C..
