Henri de Daillon (ap.1622-1685) est comte du Lude, puis duc du Lude (1675) et Pair de France. Il est aussi marquis d'Illiers, baron de Briançon et seigneur de Pontgibault. Capitaine et Gouverneur de Saint-Germain, Premier Gentilhomme de la Chambre, il est depuis 1669 Grand Maître de l'Artillerie de France. Il épouse Renée de Bouillé, comtesse de Créance puis en secondes noces, le 6 février 1681, Marguerite de Béthune (1643-1726), fille de Maximilien François, second duc de Sully et de Charlotte Séguier, et veuve du Comte de la Guiche. En 1667, elle est dame d'honneur de la reine Marie-Thérèse puis en 1696, elle est nommée dame d'honneur de la duchesse de Bourgogne, Marie-Adélaïde de Savoie. ARTILLERIE
Prima di Louvois, l'artiglieria era affidata ad appaltatori civili che fornivano gli uomini e l'equipaggiamento per ogni cannone in batteria a un prezzo prestabilito. Passò sotto un gran maestro d'artiglieria, carica creata sotto Carlo VII, che appartenne a Sully dal 1599 al 1610 o al duca di Meilleraye sotto Richelieu. Con Louvois, l'artiglieria divenne parte integrante dell'esercito e fu protetta dal reggimento dei fucilieri del re. I ranghi nell'artiglieria erano più accessibili alla gente comune che in altri reggimenti, l'avanzamento veniva dato in base a meriti e talenti. Fino al XVIII secolo l'attrezzatura lasciava molto a desiderare con diversi calibri, diversi carrelli e diverse ruote. La standardizzazione e la modernità dell'artiglieria dovranno molto a J.-B. de Gribeauval, ispettore generale dell'artiglieria dal 1776. Alla fine del XVIII secolo, l'artiglieria francese sarà la prima in Europa e questa superiorità spiegherà le vittorie del Rivoluzione.
