La scelta del nostro tipo monetario non è forse estranea alla vittoria riportata in Asia Minore da Marco Perpena, uno dei due consoli, su Aristonico che si era ribellato nel 132 a.C. affermando di essere il discendente di Attalo III, l'ultimo re di Pergamo che aveva lasciato in eredità il suo regno ai Romani. In effetti, la vittoria di questo console consacrò la vittoria dei romani sui ribelli greci dell'Asia Minore. Lucio Cornelio Lentulo fu il secondo console quell'anno.
