Le sixième groupe des frappes de Vespasien commence en l’an 1 et se poursuit jusqu’à l’an 3, il est donc directement lié à la Guerre Juive, avec un maximum de production en l’an 2. Il se caractérise par un aigle avec couronne dans le bec mais sur une massue, sans croissant entre les pattes.
Très homogène, on n’y trouve que deux, peut-être trois graveurs, dont l’un exceptionnel, celui de notre exemplaire, qui utilise au mieux les possibilités offertes par une fonderie qui arrive à fournir des flans très larges. Les portraits sont de particulièrement grand module : on est bien loin des petits portraits stéréotypés des deniers de l’atelier de Rome !

Dans la base TSP maintenue par Michel Prieur, quarante exemplaires sont maintenant répertoriés dont pour les musées Jérusalem, British Museum, ANS, Cambridge SNG Fitzwilliam, Yale, Berlin et Oslo.
