Dans l’ouvrage de Jules-Paul Tardivel, Vie du pape Pie-IX : ses œuvres et ses douleurs, un passage mentionne les martyrs du Japon. Je cite : “Au commencement de l’année 1862, Pie IX invita les évêques et les fidèles à venir assister à la canonisation de vingt-six bienheureux, martyrisés au Japon en 1597. Un nombre prodigieux de pèlerins répondirent à l’appel du Souverain-Pontife. Trois cent vingt-trois cardinaux, patriarches et évêques, plus de quatre mille prêtres et cent mille étrangers se réunirent à Rome. [...] Pendant dix jours, de l’Ascension à la Pentecôte, il y eut une fête continuelle dans la ville éternelle. [...] Le 8 juin 1862, jour de la Pentecôte, après une messe pontificale eut lieu la cérémonie imposante de la canonisation.”.
In Jules-Paul Tardivel's book, Life of Pope Pius IX: His Works and Sorrows, a passage mentions the martyrs of Japan. I quote: “At the beginning of 1862, Pius IX invited the bishops and faithful to come and attend the canonization of twenty-six blesseds, martyred in Japan in 1597. A prodigious number of pilgrims responded to the call of the Sovereign Pontiff. Three hundred and twenty-three cardinals, patriarchs and bishops, more than four thousand priests and one hundred thousand foreigners gathered in Rome. [...] For ten days, from Ascension to Pentecost, there was a continuous celebration in the Eternal City. [...] On June 8, 1862, the day of Pentecost, after a pontifical Mass, the imposing ceremony of canonization took place.”
