Commento

Suite à la proclamation de la République Romaine le 15 novembre 1848, le pape Pie IX quitte Rome le 24 novembre et se réfugie à Gaète dans le Royaume des Deux-Siciles. Il ne reviendra à Rome que le 12 avril 1850 après l’écrasement de l’insurrection par les troupes françaises. Ce type monétaire existe aussi en laiton argenté et en bronze argenté.
Following the proclamation of the Roman Republic on November 15, 1848, Pope Pius IX left Rome on November 24 and took refuge in Gaeta in the Kingdom of the Two Sicilies.
