Cronistoria

VALENCIENNES - CONDÉ SUR L'ESCAUT

Nel 1676, Luigi XIV si impossessò di Condé (la sede era diretta da Vauban) che divenne definitivamente francese nel 1678 con il Trattato di Nijmegen. Vauban poi du Buat migliorò le fortificazioni dell'antica roccaforte, il che non impedì alle truppe austriache di François de Saxe-Cobourg di occupare la città dopo un blocco di 92 giorni (10 luglio 1793). Liberato dagli austriaci il 3 settembre 1794, cadde nelle mani dei “Coalisés” durante la caduta di Napoleone (1815): non lo lasciarono che tre anni dopo, nel 1818.
