Les Sociétés d'Agriculture étaient des associations libres qui se sont donné pour tâche de discuter des théories agricoles, de perfectionner les méthodes, etc., et à l'établissement desquelles la loi n'impose d'autre condition que celle de faire approuver leurs statuts par l'autorité préfectorale. Celles qui s'occupent plus spécialement des applications pratiques se nomment comices agricoles.
“Guillaume Amédée Devade (1818-1888) est député du Loiret de 1876 à 1888. Nommé médecin en chef de l'hôpital de Gien en 1847, il fut révoqué de ces fonctions après le coup d'Etat de décembre 1851, à cause de ses opinions républicaines. Conseiller municipal de Gien depuis 1860, il appartint, pendant la guerre de 1870-1871, aux ambulances de l'armée de la Loire, et fut décoré de ce chef à la fin de la campagne. Conseiller d'arrondissement en 1874, il fut élu, le 20 février 1876, député de l'arrondissement de Gien, par 6,494 voix sur 11,413 votants et 14,592 inscrits, contre 4,860 voix à M. Despond, candidat constitutionnel. Il siégea à la gauche républicaine, combattit le cabinet de Broglie et fut des 363. Réélu, le 14 octobre 1877, après la dissolution de la Chambre, par 8,268 voix sur 12,652 votants et 15,342 inscrits, contre 4,330 voix à M. de Chasseval, candidat du gouvernement du 16 mai, il reprit sa place à gauche, soutint les ministres républicains au pouvoir, vota contre la proposition Raspail sur l'amnistie, et pour la proposition Gatineau, et fut réélu, le 21 août 1881, par 7,941 voix sur 9,468 votants et 15,849 inscrits. Il vota l'expulsion des princes, et, porté, le 4 octobre 1885, sur la liste républicaine du Loiret, fut réélu, le 2e sur 6, par 48,578 voix sur 83,675 votants et 102,589 inscrits.
