C’est la première fois que nous proposons ce type à la vente qui semble plus rare que ne le laissent supposer les ouvrages généraux. la tête de Zeus fait penser aux monnayage d’argent de Séleucus Ier avec Athéna sur un quadrige d’éléphants (HGCS 9/ 18).

Cronistoria
SIRIA - SELEUCIA E PIERIA - SELEUCIA
(II - I secolo a.C.)
Seleucia, ai piedi del Monte Pieria, fu fondata da Seleuco I nel 300 aC poco prima di Antiochia e forma una delle città della Tetrapoli (Antiochia, Apamea, Laodicea e Seleucia). La città era fortificata e dotata di infrastrutture portuali che ne facevano il porto esterno di Antiochia, metropoli della Siria. Seleucia fu occupata dai Lagidi tra il 246 e il 219 aC Antioco VIII Gripo le concesse l'autonomia nel 109 aC La città fu assediata da Tigrane d'Armenia durante la sua invasione della Siria. Il suo status fu mantenuto da Pompeo quando la Siria divenne una provincia romana nel 64 a.C..
