Né à Paris, Joseph François Oscar Bernadotte est le fils unique du maréchal Bernadotte. En 1844, il succède à son père comme roi de Suède et de Norvège sous le nom d’Oscar Ier.

Oscar I, nato il 4 luglio 1799 a Parigi e morto l'8 luglio 1859 a Stoccolma, fu re di Svezia e Norvegia dal 1844 fino alla sua morte. L'unico figlio di Jean-Baptiste Bernadotte (Carlo XIV), fu il primo sovrano della casa Bernadotte a comprendere e parlare lo svedese. Ha svolto un ruolo importante nel radicare questa nuova dinastia in Scandinavia..
