Commento

This is an emergency coinage struck during the reign of Charles XII. Charles XII (17/06/1682-11/12/1718), the son of Charles XI and Ulric of Denmark, succeeded his father in 1697. King at 15, he proved to be a brilliant tactician in the Northern War that pitted him against Tsar Peter the Great. Charles XII first defeated the Danes at Copenhagen, then the Russians at Narva on November 30, 1700. He took Warsaw in 1702, ravaged the Baltic States, and then installed Stanislas Leszczynski as King of Poland in 1703, but the latter had to flee the following year. Charles XII was defeated at Poltava in 1709 and took refuge in Turkey. He was killed in 1718 while trying to reconquer Norway. His sister Ulrique-Éléonore succeeded him
