Dwight D. Eisenhower (1890-1969) est le 34e président des États-Unis du 20 janvier 1953 au 20 janvier 1961. Issu d’une famille modeste du Texas, il entre en 1911 à l’Académie Militaire de West Point. En 1933, il devient chef d’état-major du général Mac Arthur. C’est pendant la seconde guerre mondiale qu’il gagne ses étoiles de général. Il devient commandant en chef des forces américaines en Europe où il participera aux campagnes d’Afrique du Nord, de Sicile et d’Italie. Il planifie le débarquement en Normandie. Après guerre, il est nommé en 1950 commandant des forces de l’OTAN. On le sollicite pour l’investiture républicaine aux élections présidentielles de 1952. Par sa victoire, il met fin à deux décennies de domination démocrate.
Ses deux mandats sont marqués par la fin de la Guerre de Corée, la reprise des relations avec l’URSS, la poursuite de la politique d’endiguement du communisme, la prise de pouvoir de Fidel Castro à Cuba, la politique de déségrégation dans l’armée et les administrations et par la création de la Nasa.
Son vice-président, Richard Nixon tente de lui succéder mais est battu par le démocrate John F. Kennedy.
Ce lot contient une monnaie de l’atelier de Philadelphie et une monnaie de l’atelier de Denver.
Ces monnaies ont été uniquement vendues par l’US Mint et pas mises en circulation.

He became commander-in-chief of the American forces in Europe where he participated in the campaigns in North Africa, Sicily and Italy.. He plans the Normandy landings. After the war, he was appointed commander of NATO forces in 1950.. He was asked for the Republican nomination in the 1952 presidential elections.. With his victory, he ends two decades of Democratic domination..
His two terms were marked by the end of the Korean War, the resumption of relations with the USSR, the continuation of the policy of containing communism, the seizure of power by Fidel Castro in Cuba, the policy of desegregation in the army and administrations and the creation of NASA..
His vice-president, Richard Nixon, tried to succeed him but was defeated by the Democrat John F.. Kennedy.
