It was in 1725 that Michel Jacques Levy, advisor to the king and bailiff of Dourdan, had the Château du Parterre built. The city rampart then separated the castle from the French gardens. The Duke of Orléans, Lord of Dourdan, gave his consent to the destruction of the rampart on Michel Jacques Levy's property. In 1739, the castle was bought by Madame De Vertillac, wife of the Count of Vertillac, governor of Dourdan. Like many great ladies of the 17th century, Madame De Vertillac held a literary and philosophical salon of quality. Her wit was highly appreciated. In 1791, the Parterre was requisitioned by the Republican army as barracks. The victories of the Republic were celebrated in the gardens. In 1809, the heirs of Mr. and Mrs. De Vertillac sold the Parterre to the city in 45 shares.
