Cette monnaie montre la différence entre notre conception moderne d'une belle monnaie et la conception antique d'une monnaie de valeur ; ce quart de statère représentait 1,77 grammes d'or et valait plus qu'un beau petit quart avec une belle chevelure et un élégant cheval, mais de quelques centigrammes de métal précieux de moins...
Pour ces monnaies globulaires, il existe deux types bien distincts ; avec le segment au revers ou avec une dépression très légèrement pointillée, mais sans le segment !
Cet exemplaire plus large et moins épais, presque scyphate, semble présenter un motif indéterminé au revers mais pas un segment.
This coin shows the difference between our modern concept of a beautiful coin and the ancient concept of a valuable coin; this quarter stater represented 1.77 grams of gold and was worth more than a beautiful small quarter with a beautiful head of hair and an elegant horse, but a few centigrams less of precious metal... For these globular coins, there are two very distinct types; with the segment on the reverse or with a very slightly dotted depression, but without the segment! This wider and less thick, almost scyphate example seems to have an indeterminate motif on the reverse but not a segment

GALLIA SENONES (Regione di Sens)
(II - I secolo a.C.)
I Sénon, il cui nome significa i saggi o gli anziani, controllavano un vasto territorio che si estendeva tra il sud della Champagne e il nord della Borgogna. Il loro oppidum principale era Agedincum (Sens) che conserva ancora oggi il nome dell'antica civitas. Avevano molti altri oppida come Auxerre, Tonnerre o Avallon. Divona sembra essere stato il principale santuario dei Senoni. Cesare aveva svernato sei delle sue legioni nel 53 a.C. ad Agedincum. Labieno, luogotenente e legato di Cesare, venne a stabilirsi nella regione di Sens tra Gergovie e Alesia per controllare le strade e proteggere le armate di Cesare da un attacco dei Belgi o dei Germani. Cesare (BG. II, 2; V, 54, 56; VI, 2, 3, 44; VII, 4, 10, 11, 34, 56-59, 62, 75). Tolomeo (G. II, 8, 9).
