Sur cet exemplaire, la légende du droit est normale et centripète, c'est-à-dire qu'elle se lit dans le sens des aiguilles d'une montre, avec le pied des lettres vers l'intérieur ; le E de VELLAVS ressemble plutôt à un T. La lecture de la légende du revers est incertaine et semble ne correspondre à aucune de celles qui sont décrites dans le Prou ou le Belfort pour VELLAOS (Saint-Paulien). Ce type exact semble manquer aux ouvrages de référence, même s'il est possible d'assimiler le type de portrait à ceux représentés sur les triens du monétaire DAGOMARES illustrés dans le Belfort.
Dans les Cahiers Ernest-Babelon n°8, les auteurs mentionnent quatre monnaies de Saint-Paulien. La première, du monétaire ESPERIVS (B. 4694 = P. 2116), a été découverte à Brive-La-Gaillarde (Corrèze). La seconde provient de La-Chaise-Dieu (Haute-Loire) ; elle porte la légende LEVDVLIVS MNROM au droit et VELLVAS ETI au revers. Son type de revers est constitué d’une croix sur un globule accosté de IV et IL, avec INONI à l’exergue. La troisième fut trouvée à Saint-André-Le-Chalençon (Haute-Loire) ; le droit présente deux têtes diadémées affrontées, avec la légende VELLAO CIVC et le revers porte la légende CSPCRIVSMO autour d’une croix sur deux degrés (B. 4697). La quatrième citée par les auteurs fut trouvée à Saint-Paulien mais n’est pas décrite (cf. Callu, Loriot, 1990, n° 264).
On this example, the legend on the obverse is normal and centripetal, that is to say, it is read in a clockwise direction, with the foot of the letters towards the inside; the E of VELLAVS looks more like a T. The reading of the legend on the reverse is uncertain and does not seem to correspond to any of those described in the Prou or the Belfort for VELLAOS (Saint-Paulien). This exact type seems to be missing from reference works, even if it is possible to assimilate the type of portrait to those represented on the triens of the monetary DAGOMARES illustrated in Belfort.

The second comes from La-Chaise-Dieu (Haute-Loire); it bears the legend LEVDVLIVS MNROM on the obverse and VELLVAS ETI on the reverse. Its reverse type consists of a cross on a globule flanked by IV and IL, with INONI in the exergue. The third was found in Saint-André-Le-Chalençon (Haute-Loire); the obverse shows two diademed heads facing each other, with the legend VELLAO CIVC and the reverse bears the legend CSPCRIVSMO around a cross on two steps (B. 4697). The fourth cited by the authors was found in Saint-Paulien but is not described (cf.. Callu, Loriot, 1990, n° 264)
