La Perside sembra aver svolto un ruolo importante nella storia dell'impero achemenide. Persepoli era una delle capitali dell'Impero. La Perside mantenne una certa autonomia sotto il dominio macedone che si perpetuò sotto i Parti. Il fondatore della dinastia sembra essere stato Bagadate alla fine del III secolo a.C.. Sembra che Dario II, contemporaneo dei re parti Orode I, Sinatruce e Fraate III (c. 80-57 a.C.-C.) era figlio di Autofradate II, padre di Artaserse II (57 a.C. circa) e Oxathres (57-38 a.C.).
