Type très rare ! Plusieurs suppositions ont été faîtes sur la signification exacte de la marque “VNI”. Il pourrait s’agir d’une abréviation de Quinarius Nummus (rappelant l’abréviation HSN pour Sestertius Nummus), suivi du signe “I” dénotant que les lettres sont d’une nature toute autre que les initiales du monnayeur. On retrouve deux styles différents frappés avec cette marque, cet exemplaire est dérivé du style de L. Piso Frugi, particulièrement rare. Un exemplaire du même type a été adjugé 1271 USD à la vente du 17 mai 2012 de NAC (lot 171).
Very rare type! Several assumptions have been made about the exact meaning of the “VNI” mark. It could be an abbreviation of Quinarius Nummus (reminiscent of the abbreviation HSN for Sestertius Nummus), followed by the sign “I” denoting that the letters are of a completely different nature than the minter’s initials. Two different styles are found struck with this mark; this example is derived from the style of L. Piso Frugi, which is particularly rare.
