Poids lourd. Coulé. Dans son inventaire, Haeberlin a relevé au total 1168 as coulés. Émission avec marque de valeur sous la tête janiforme. Le poids théorique de l’as pour cette série serait de 268 g d’après les travaux de M. Crawford. Pour I. Vecchi, la fabrication de cette série débuterait vers 240 avant J.-C. pour prendre fin en 225 avant J.-C..

Inizialmente, viene fusa la monetazione in bronzo. L'as, unità di bronzo che corrisponde a 12 once pesa circa 325 g intorno al 250 aC prima della fine della prima guerra punica (268-241 dC). Questo stallone divenne semiliberale intorno al 220 aC all'inizio della seconda guerra punica (221-202 dC), l'asso pesava solo circa 150 g. Le divisioni più piccole, uncia, semuncia, quartuncia sono ora battute invece che fuse. Il solo peso non basta a classificare la serie, entra in gioco anche il diametro. Rapidamente tra 225 e 200 lo standard passerà da liberale a sestenziale, cioè da 325 g a 54 g a fronte della più grave crisi politica ed economica che la Repubblica abbia conosciuto dalla sua fondazione. Dal 213 a.C., se l'as è ancora fuso, vengono colpite le altre divisioni dai sextans ai semuncia.
