Descrittivo rovescio : Allégorie féminine debout tenant une croix et une palme, en train d’écrire la première ligne de texte. Une statue d’homme assis tenant un sceptre est posée sur un piédestal orné de guirlandes et de sphinges inscrit de “ROMA”. Inscription en polonais en vingt lignes.

Commento

Henryk Sienkiewicz est l’écrivain polonais le plus lu à travers le monde. Il reçut le prix Nobel de littérature en 1905 pour son roman “Quo vadis”. Ses nouvelles et romans réalistes traitent entre autre de la représentation de la vie sociale et des droits des polonais.
L’inscription au revers de la médaille énumère les principaux chefs-d’oeuvre de l’écrivain.
Les signes diacritiques propres à la langue polonaise ne sont pas retranscrits.

Une médaille similaire est conservée au musée d’Orsay (numéro d’inventaire MEDOR 1552 2).
Henryk Sienkiewicz is the most widely read Polish writer in the world. He received the Nobel Prize for Literature in 1905 for his novel “Quo Vadis.” His realistic short stories and novels deal, among other things, with the depiction of Polish social life and rights. The inscription on the reverse of the medal lists the writer's main masterpieces. Diacritical marks specific to the Polish language are not transcribed. A similar medal is kept at the Musée d'Orsay (inventory number MEDOR 1552 2).
