“The pilgrimage of the city of Warsaw dates back to 1711. On that date, its inhabitants promised that if they were delivered from the plague, they would go on foot, every year, to the Sanctuary of Czestochowa to celebrate the feast of the Assumption of Our Lady.” The plague is said to have ceased thanks to the intercession of Saint Paul the Hermit, patriarch of the Pauline Order in charge of the sanctuary and who coordinates all the numerous pilgrimages to Jasna Góra (Hill of Light) which overlooks the sanctuary. Since then, every year, from August 6 to 15, Warsaw makes its pilgrimage to Jasna Góra
