Commento
Haarlem, which was founded in the 9th century on the shores of a lake called the Haarlemmermeer, has a rich history and has held municipal franchises for over 750 years. Breweries, shipbuilding, and the textile industry once made Haarlem one of the most prosperous cities in the Netherlands. Laurent Coster, in Dutch Laurens Janszoon Coster (born around 1370, Haarlem), was a sexton in Haarlem and became a printer. Some Dutch writers credited him with the invention of printing as early as 1430, with movable type made of natural wood. He died in 1440, and his worker, called John, believed to be John Geinsflesh, who was Gutenberg's older brother, furtively removed all the objects from this printing press and transported them to Mainz, his homeland. His brother is said to have perfected this discovery by substituting metal characters for wooden ones... This opinion was successfully refuted by Pierre Lambinet and by Antoine-Augustin Renouard in 1819!
