Exemplaire avec le poinçon corne sur la tranche. L'Académie des Sciences, Belles-Lettres et Arts de Rouen est créée en juin 1744 par lettres patentes de Louis XV. Auparavant, existaient déjà des réunions d'amis férus de botanique qui formaient une académie non-officielle. Deux hommes ont participé à la création de cette Académie : Fontenelle, véritable parrain de l'Académie et Le Cornier de Cideville, condisciple et ami de Voltaire. De nombreux membres de cette Académie sont célèbres comme Chardin, Pigalle, Parmentier, Necker, Victor Hugo ou l'abbé Cochet.
