Nous classons cet exemplaire sous le millésime 1717 mais la fabrication pourrait être postérieure à la visite. On retrouve un exemplaire en argent au musée Carnavalet.

D’après l’ouvrage de F. Page-Divo, Pierre le Grand arriva à Paris le 7 mai 1717 pour un séjour de deux mois. Il logea à l’hôtel de Lesdiguières de la rue de la Ceriseraie (4e arrondissement). Le 11 mai, le tsar alla visiter Louis XV, alors âgé de 7 ans. Au cours de son séjour, il visita la Monnaie, où le directeur fit frapper devant lui une grande médaille d’or. Le but de cette visite fut d’abord diplomatique, le tsar voulait une alliance, il n’y eu qu’un traité de commerce signé à Amsterdam un peu plus tard.

Luigi XV successe a Luigi XIV il 1 settembre 1715 e Filippo d'Orléans fu l'unico reggente. La quadrupla alleanza del 1717 mira a mantenere l'equilibrio europeo con Francia, Austria, Inghilterra e Province Unite. Durante la sua visita in Francia, lo zar Pietro I firmò un trattato d'intesa bilaterale. Nel 1718, l'abate Dubois divenne Segretario di Stato per gli affari esteri. Sacro Arcivescovo di Cambrai nel 1720, Primo Ministro nel 1722, morì il 10 agosto 1723. La Francia dichiarò guerra alla Spagna nel 1719 per impedire a Filippo V di rovesciare il Reggente. La presa di San Sebastian e Hondarribia segna la fine delle ostilità. Nel 1720, Filippo V si unì alla Quadrupla Alleanza e rinunciò al trono di Francia con il Trattato di Madrid. La prima loggia massonica fu fondata in Francia nel 1721. Luigi XV fu incoronato all'età di 12 anni il 25 ottobre 1722. Il 15 febbraio 1723 fu dichiarato maggiorenne. Il reggente è sostituito dal duca di Borbone che diventa primo ministro. Filippo d'Orléans è morto il 2 dicembre.
