The Vytis is a knight in Lithuanian history. It is based on the Pahonie motif, the ancient coat of arms of the Grand Duchy of Lithuania, once adopted by Belarus. Upon Lithuania's independence in 1992, it was decided to adopt a white Vytis on a red background as its coat of arms. The knight holds a silver sword in his right hand and, on his left shoulder, a blue shield decorated with a yellow double cross.
