Commento

President of the Liberian Republic from 1944 until his death in 1971, he is considered the “father of modern Liberia.” His presidency was marked by the influx of foreign investment into his country and its modernization. Liberia then experienced a degree of prosperity. He also pursued a policy of national unity with the aim of reducing the social and political gaps between Americo-Liberians and indigenous Liberians. However, as his years in power progressed, his style of governing became increasingly dictatorial.
